Tsukiji Fish Market

Tokyo’s most famous and internationally renowned wholesale fish market, Tsukiji, is open every day except Mondays from 6am to 7pm. From Monday to Saturday it’s open from 8am to 7pm. Admission is free for people over the age of 18. The market occupies a large area beside the Tokyo Bayfront.

The market has been in operation since the early 17th century and originally functioned as a place where fishermen could sell their catch directly to the public.
