Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, cont.

The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts is the oldest fine arts museum in the state of Alabama. The Museum’s facility provides spacious, light-filled galleries, and attractive vistas. Located in the Wynton M. Blount Cultural Park, the Museum is adjacent to the Alabama Shakespeare Festival and the future home of the Montgomery Ballet. In addition to its permanent collection, the Museum features a variety of traveling exhibits each year, offering a diverse selection of cultural and regional shows.

A unique learning experience awaits visitors in ARTWORKS, where visitors of all ages explore art first hand in an interactive exhibit. The Museum’s permanent collection includes the Blount Collection, an outstanding array of 19th- and 20th- century paintings arranged in chronological order to illustrate the development of the important artists, art movements, and styles of American art history. Among the works in the collection are masterpieces by John Singleton Copley, John Singer Sargent, and Edward Hopper. The Museum is also home to some of the finest examples of works of art on paper by such masters as Diirer, Rembrandt, Picasso and Whistler. Southern regional art found in the Museum’s holdings reflects the distinguished legacy of the Southeast and the continuing vitality of its contemporary art. Eighteenth-century Worcester Porcelain and 19th-century Chinese export wares, in addition to art nouveau glass and other functional arts, are featured in changing exhibits in the Decorative Arts Gallery.
