What is Plano?
Plano is a city in Collin County, Texas, United States. The population was estimated to be 191,351 in July 2016 by the United States Census Bureau. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth–Arlington metropolitan area.
In 1841, John Neely Bryan bought the land that would become Plano and named it after his friend Stephen F. Austin, the founder of Texas. In 1892, a post office called Bryan opened and operated until 1944. The town grew rapidly in the early 20th century as a service center for eastern Collin County and became an agricultural center in the 1930s. The town’s population peaked at nearly 29,000 in 1940. With the arrival of Interstate 35 in 1980, growth resumed at a greater pace and by 1990 the population had reached 19,000.
Today, Plano is a corporate town with numerous businesses providing services to the region.
