Head from Tilly Jane A-Frame ENE down the solid ridgeline (which is only faint to begin) on Detroit Ridge Trail 643A for 2 mi of Detroit the best walking all day! Around 4280 ft near the bottom of the ski area is the easy-to-miss return 5 mi left down easily on the connector trail NW Detroit across Doe Creek to Cloud Cap Ski Trail 643. Turn right (NE) almost 2 mi to the TH.

The partially open-air Tilly Jane A-Frame packed in snow for most of the year.

DURATION: 2-3 hours up, 4-5 hours round-trip for Tie-In Rock directly or with a loop; 6-7 hours round-trip for Cooper Spur directly or with a loop.
DIFFICULTY: Strenuous. Mostly friendly grade, rocky, pumice, high altitude, mostly signed, not many trees.
TRIP REPORT: This extremely difficult alternate climbing route to the summit of Mount Hood ends for most normal people at the top of the Cooper Spur moraine ridgeline where the Eliot Glacier meets the Newton Clark Glacier. The vantage point from nearly 9000 ft is attained from the highest established trail on Mount Hood. The incredible day hike beginning from one of two neighboring high THs takes visitors through alpine terrain and affords fantastic close-ups of the glaciers, Mount Hood, and several other Detroit Mountains without having to trudge up steeply for thousands of feet all day before you get to the views!.
