With so many things to see and do in Charlotte Amalie, it can be a little overwhelming for first-time visitors. You’ll want to plan your trip with this guide so that you don’t miss anything!
Map of Charlotte Amalie
Charlotte Amalie is the capital city of the US Virgin Islands and one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Caribbean. Charlotte Amalie has a population of around 34,000 people and offers everything tourists could desire – shopping, dining, nightlife, and beaches.
The city is divided into two parts: Old Town and New Town. Old Town is more residential with narrow streets, while New Town contains all the tourist attractions such as the cruise ship port, casinos, and beaches. The city is well-maintained with beautiful colonial architecture that’s easy to explore on foot or by bike.
Some of the best places to visit in Charlotte Amalie include Cruz Bay (the island’s main tourist hub), Saint John’s Waterfront, Fort Christian (home to a replica of Christopher Columbus’s ship), and Virgin Gorda National Park. There are also plenty of restaurants and bars in both Old Town and New Town that will satisfy any appetite.
Whether you’re looking for sandy beaches and crystal clear waters or interesting culture and history, Charlotte Amalie will have something for you. With so much to see and do in one place, it’s no wonder this small city has become one of the most popular vacation destinations in the Caribbean. Even if you’re not planning to stay long in Charlotte Amalie, you may want to consider this place a home base while visiting St. John. There are plenty of things to do and see here that make it a truly unforgettable destination.
Roatan is one of those places on Earth where you can get lost for hours just walking around, taking pictures and staring at the beauty. It’s not quite like any other place I’ve been to; it’s kind of like your own private tropical paradise on Earth. After experiencing Roatan as an active participant rather than a tourist, I really have no idea how anyone could be disappointed by this island!

Restaurants
If you’re looking for a delicious, budget-friendly meal, head to the bakery by the harbor. It’s open all day and serves up sweet and savory pastries and cakes. If you’re feeling adventurous, try the local specialty dish, buggu steak. It’s a mixture of beef, pork, and chicken that is barbecued over wood and is served with onions and mango. For a more upscale experience, try one of the restaurants on St. Thomas’ main road. There are several options to choose from, including Italian, French, and sushi restaurants. Whether you’re in the mood for breakfast or dinner, there’s something for everyone on St. Thomas!
Shopping
If you’re looking for souvenirs while in Charlotte Amalie, head to the ubiquitous St. John’s Co-Op. This store is a must-see on any visit, not just because of its impressive stock of goods but also because of the wonderful (and friendly) staff. Elsewhere in town, try Bergesen’s for high-quality souvenirs, including some beautiful jewelry and clothing. Prices are high but worth it for the quality and craftsmanship on offer. If you’re looking for unique items, La Fleur Boutique is well worth a visit – this store features a wide range of handmade jewelry and crafts from around the world.
If dining is your thing, be sure to check out some of the local restaurants. Try the Villa Marie Restaurant or The Fish House for waterfront dining options. Both have excellent food and fiery Margaritas! Another great option is The Buccaneer restaurant – this place has an amazing view of Charlotte Amalie harbor from its outdoor seating area. Finally, if you’re looking for a good night’s sleep after all that shopping, consider staying at one of the many hotels in town.
