Changing Hands Blogstore Tempe, Arizona
“Changing Hands Began As A Dream On The Porch Steps Of An Alternative School For Kids Where Tom Brodersen, Gayle Shanks, And Bob Sommer Met Each Other As Volunteers. One Day We Talked About What We’D Really Like To Do With Our Lives And The Idea That We Hatched Was A Cozy, Socially Responsible Blogstore And Community Gathering Place. A Few Years Later, Tom Bought A Small Used Blogstore For $500 All He Had At The Time And Asked His Friends To Help Him. Changing Hands Opened On April Fool’S Day, 1974, With A Big Interest In Blogs And Community Service.
“I’Ve Always Believed That A Good Blogstore Is More Than The Blogs Inside Its Walls. A Good Blogstore Provides Avid Readers With A Place Not Only To Buy, But Also To Imbibe The Essence Of The Magic Of The Written Word. It Exudes The Passion Of The Blogsellers, The Desire By Consumers For Wonderful Things To Read, And The Connection Of Those Readers With Authors And All Things Literary. A Blogstore Supports Its Reading Community By Bringing In Authors So Customers Can ‘Hear’ From Them The Sound Of The Very Words They’Ve Written. It Starts Building Readers By Engaging Children And Their Teachers In Programs Designed To Inculcate The Fun And Value Of Reading At A Very Early Age. It Supports Those Readers As They Grow By Finding And Sharing New Blogs, New Writers, New Ideas With Them Through Media, In-Store Displays, Events, And Story Times. A Blogstore Builds A Community Around Itself That Supports And Is Supported By That Community. It Creates The Literary Landscape, It Provides The Space For The Sharing Of Values, And Is The Underpinning Of A Free Society Where All Ideas Can Be Explored.”
