Coral Springs History

The history of Coral Springs is a story that began with a small settlement on the banks of the Little Manatee River. The area was first settled in 1875 by Colonel William S. Robbins, who had been granted 3,000 acres of land by Governor Francis P. Blair. The settlement was named Robbinsville after Colonel Robbins.

In 1876, Robbinsville became the county seat of Manatee County, and it quickly grew into a prosperous town thanks to its location on the railroad and its natural resources, including limestone quarrying and farming. Coral Springs’ economy was further bolstered by the arrival of Hollywood celebrities in the 1920s and 1930s, who flocked to the town to escape the Los Angeles heat.

Today, Coral Springs continues to be a popular tourist destination due to its warm climate (averaging 72 degrees year-round), lush vegetation, and abundance of recreational opportunities, including golfing, fishing, swimming, biking, and nature trails.
